Quick guide

Make sets and runs, draw one card, then discard one. The first player with no cards left wins the hand.

What you need+

Two to six players use one standard deck of 52 cards. We do not use jokers. Deal seven cards to each player. Place the remaining cards face down as the draw pile, then turn one card face up beside it to begin the discard pile.

The aim+

Make all the cards in your hand into valid sets or runs. A set is three or four cards of the same number in different suits, such as 7 hearts, 7 clubs and 7 spades. A run is three or more cards in order in the same suit, such as 4, 5 and 6 of hearts. An ace is low only, so A, 2 and 3 is valid but Q, K and A is not.

Your turn+

Draw one card from either the top of the draw pile or the top of the discard pile. You may then place any valid sets or runs on the table. Finish your turn by discarding one card face up.

Winning a hand+

You win by placing all your cards into valid sets or runs, then discarding your final card. Say Rummy so the table knows the hand is finished. If the draw pile runs out, shuffle the discard pile except its top card to make a new draw pile.

Scoring+

After a player wins, everyone else counts the cards left in their hand. Aces are worth 1 point, number cards are worth their number, and jacks, queens and kings are worth 10 points. The winner scores 0. The lowest total after the announced rounds wins the table.

A friendly table
Ask the host if you are new to Rummy. There is always time for a quick practice hand.

For children
Children who know the rules are welcome to join. Activities are also available for children who prefer to play away from the card table.

Tournament format
The number of rounds and table groups will be announced at the event once bookings close.
